Norcia (Pg). On the evening of April 30th Campi will be hoisting its May Pole, generally a particularly tall and straight poplar trunk felled by some thirty volunteers from the town’s inhabitants. The festivities associated with the regeneration of life and the arrival of spring most probably predate Christianity – a remnant of the ancient pagan fertility rites practised in Umbria.
