PERUGIA SOCIAL PHOTO FEST. International festival of photography and social therapeutic

Perugia (PG) - The Board of Social Perugia Photo Fest has selected the four winning projects of the "call for entry" 2014 for the two sections of "social photography" (Myriam Meloni and Simone Cerio) and "therapeutic photography" (Jay Sullivan and Delila Marika Bertoni) and has awarded to five honorable mentions.

The choice between the 117 participants from all corners of the world.

The four winners will be exhibiting at the third edition of the first international festival dedicated to social photography and therapeutic program in Perugia November 14 to 23 next.

A total of four projects selected for the "call for entry" 2014 Social Photo Fest Perugia (PSPF), two for both sections "social photography" and "photography therapeutics." The choice was certainly not easy for the jury, which also awarded to five honorable mentions, given the quantity and the high quality of photography projects presented, confirming the great international success already achieved by the festival of Perugia dedicated to photography and social therapy.

The projects submitted from around the world were in fact 117 (as well as Italy and many European countries, Australia, Malaysia, India, South Africa, Canada, America, Argentina). In particular, 84 for the "social photography" 33 and those presented in the section "photography therapeutics."

To select the four winning projects and to assign the five honorable mentions was a committee made up of Antonello Turchetti, artistic director of the festival on behalf of the organizing association 'LuceGrigia', by photographer Fausto Podavini (winner of the word press photo 2013) and Loredana De Pace, a journalist specializing in photography.

As part of the "social photography" (for reporting and reflection, redemption of individual and collective identities, means to give voice to the 'excluded' and therefore an instrument of social inclusion) are the winners

the Spanish Myriam Meloni with "Behind the absence" ("the condition of pure resilience is treated by Myriam Meloni with consistent language, personal yet careful not to be too present, leaving space to the image content, rather than its aestheticization") and Italian Simone Cerio (Parallelozero) with "When the others go away", a project carried out on behalf of Emergency ("shots of Simone Cerio are spot - sometimes delicate, more extremely rough - that shed light on the difficult condition of resilience that is Afghanistan "). The honorable mentions went to Corinna Kern ("A place called home"), Marianna Ciuffreda, Chiara Moncada, Mark Vignola ("Lucha") and Irving Villegas ("Working far away").

For the section "photograph therapeutic" (understood as a means of reactivating the perception of a stimulus and internal staff, especially where there is a difficulty of communication to enable then a process of self-awareness and exploration of the self), the two projects selected were those Jay Sullivan ("Glove") from the United States ("this photographic genre allows him to get away from the formally negative memory of his father, while some of his objects - photographed with precision entomologist - entrusted with the difficult task of deconstructing his memory and heal ") and Delila Marika Bertoni (" The photograph I Care ") from Italy (" Marika uses a black and white at times surreal, theatrical, structured as on a stage where the anthropos finds his truth, even through shared symbols by the two protagonists, that the author and the interpreter "). Honorable Mentions went to Aminta Pierri for "No elegy" and Deborah Hughes for "Emptyroom."

The four winners will now expose during the third edition of PSPF, which is the first international festival dedicated to social photography and therapeutics which will be held again at Perugia, in the Civic Museum Center for Contemporary Culture Palazzo Penna, 14 to 23 November next.

The concept on which it is based "call for entry" and the one on which then rotates the 2014 edition PSPF - because the festival this year will be themed as well - is "resist". A simple word but strong which is based on psycho-social concept of "resilience".

The Social Perugia Photo Fest began as a socio-cultural event centered on the role of social and therapeutic photography and annually presents to the public the Italian and international projects that are developed in the context of phototherapy. The festival, as well as enriched by exhibitions as well as meetings, workshops and conferences, in this way wants to encourage the spread of Italian and international experiences making dialogue and creating a network of contacts from which to give birth collaborations project.

SOCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY SECTION

Myriam Meloni - "Behind the absence" (Spain)

Behind the absence living generations of children deprived of a normal family life as a result of migration from Eastern Europe can not be the ultimate expression of resilience. That of children who are alone in their land, and that expressed by the photographer who plays their suspended condition, looks lost and yet present, strong, sometimes as cold as snow-covered landscapes. The issue is fraught with current events, and this condition is treated by sheer resilience Myriam Meloni with consistent language, personal yet careful not to be too present, leaving space to the image content, rather than its aestheticism. The consequences of the absence in the voids are dense, in the absence of direct gaze in the room, in the alternation of annotated environments devoid of human figures and places in which, however, are present but, paradoxically, where you can see also, and perhaps more, those that are not there.

Simone Cerio (Parallelozero) - "When the others go away" (Italy)

When the others go away, someone comes along to continue the battle of strength with those seeking to survive in Afghanistan devastated by the conflict. The shots are of Simon Cerio spot - sometimes delicate, more extremely rough - that shed light on this difficult condition of resilience. In fact, in the photo of cerium exaltation of the messianic role of the fact their doctors Emergency gives way to a secular sacredness of which are loaded daily gestures, situations of alert in the sharing of danger, the emergency. The black and white with which the author chooses to express itself reinforces these concepts, which is the backbone of resilience.

Honorable Mention

Corinna Kern - "A place called home" (South Africa)

Marianna Ciuffreda, Chiara Moncada, Mark Vignola - "Lucha" (Italy)

Irving Villegas - "Working far away" (Germany)

PHOTOGRAPHY SECTION THERAPEUTIC

Jay Sullivan - "Glove" (Usa)

"I hated my father for most of my life." From this incipit text already suggests the symbiotic strength of verbal language in which the author express the anger that has for a father with psychiatric problems, and that photo - the still life - universal and yet intensely personal, that Jay Sullivan uses to his images. This photographic genre allows him to get away from the formally negative memory of his father, while some of his objects - photographed with precision entomologist - entrusted with the difficult task of deconstructing his memory and heal, forcing the nature of the experiences themselves, on the borderline between reality and imagination. Sullivan changes the value attributed to each individual object, and in so doing, you care so apparently aseptic, however polished and emotionally involved.

Marika Bertoni Delila - "The photograph I care" (Italy)

The benefits of this "cure" are experienced by the author in the first person and then, in this project, the next step of his photographic journey, metodicizzati through a form of sharing what she calls "relational self." The rationale for this project, therefore, is hijacked by itself to another, as it were mirrored in the character of his photographs. Dalia Marika Bertoni uses a black and white at times surreal, theatrical, structured as on a stage where the anthropos finds his truth, even through symbols shared by the two protagonists, that the author and the interpreter, spokesman for both therapy carried out together through photography.

Honorable Mention

Aminta Pierri - "No elegy" (Italy)

Deborah Hughes - "Emptyroom" (Ireland)
