Amelia (TR) - 
From July 29th to August 12th Amelia will be throbbing with this year's edition of the Palio dei Colombi, the Medieval style joust involving knights and crossbowmen with the town's five contrade districts vying to see who can win the coveted victory banner.
The riders from the individual contrade compete in pairs, facing one another and attempting to hit a small bullseye with the point of their lance whilst riding at high speed. Each rider has a related crossbowman, who at the end of each round must fire a dart towards a mechanism that, if hit, releases a live dove.
Througout the entire event the town's taverns will be serving typical local dishes.
