Norcia (PG) - On August 10th Castelluccio will once more be holding its ancient “La mmira a lu Jalle” ritual, held annually as part of the festivities dedicated to the Virgin in mid-August. The ritual involves the santesi, or festaroli - those who have been selected to take care of the organisation of the feast to the Virgin. Blindfold and in an enclosed area they must attempt to hit a cockerel with a long stick. Not an easy task, and one that requires considerable concentration, strength, good hearing and a fair degree of cunning. At 9pm. After the winner has been annouced everyone goes either to the Cassero or up Monte Veletta, to gaze at the falling stars.
