Crossbow of Gubbio

Gubbio (PG) - On 25 May 2014, the traditional battle between the crossbowmen of Gubbio and Sansepolcro. Recorded continuously from the end of the fifteenth century BC, the Crossbow is one of the events taking place in honor of the patron saint of Gubbio Ubaldo. The traditional crossbow competition with the old station takes place in Piazza Grande on the last Sunday of May each year between the crossbowmen of Gubbio and Sansepolcro those, who wear distinctive costumes.

The competition is to hit the "rate" a target placed 36 meters away. The archer who can hit the point closest to the center of the target receives award as the Palio, a valuable banner made every year by a famous artist. During the event there is virtuosic and dramatic exhibition of the flag.
